Gus Hunt, cybersecurity strategy lead for Accenture's federal business, has said a managed service offering provides government agencies the information technology tools and expertise that can help detect and respond to security threats.
He wrote in a guest piece published Thursday that managed cybersecurity services is a just one option to address the security poverty line, which he describes as a gap between agencies that have the financial and human resources to secure IT systems and smaller government organizations that lack such resources.
"Traditional methods for establishing robust cybersecurity services across all corners of government are simply not keeping pace with the increasing complexity and speed of the threat landscape," Hunt noted.
"It will take innovative thinking and cutting-edge capabilities to help ensure that government organizations are not left vulnerable."
Hunt projected the growing use of connected devices as more organizations seek to interlink processes to the internet and implement 5G transition efforts will increase exposure to collective threats.
He suggested the "crawl-walk-run" strategy for agencies who want to adopt commercial cloud services and said the approach can help them address risk management challenges.
