Private sector entities have partnered with agencies such as the Department of Energy to form a consortium aimed at addressing industrial control system security issues in the nation’s pipeline infrastructure, Fedscoop reported Friday.

The consortium, which includes software and operational technology firm PAS Global, will work to establish guidelines for increasing ICS cybersecurity in order to better protect U.S. pipelines that carry vital resources such as oil and natural gas.

Based in Houston, PAS Global previously developed an inventory system for OT and information technology systems and will provide insight into how its European customers comply with the European Union’s ICS infrastructure security regulations.

Jason Haward-Grau, chief information security officer at PAS Global, noted that an ICS ecosystem may require cybersecurity capabilities for 500 IT devices and over 28.5K OT endpoints that connect digital and physical infrastructure.

The consortium’s establishment came after the Government Accountability Office released a report in May stating that the Transportation Security Administration failed to properly manage pipeline security operations.
