KPMG has developed a robotic process automation tool that can help the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services verify medical records for insurance claims through artificial intelligence and machine learning, GCN reported Monday.
The Intake Process Automation Tool integrates optical character recognition and other emerging technologies to ingest, code, digitize and extract information from documents for validation purposes.
KPMG also developed microservices that utilize natural language processing to identify matches in names, birthdates and other identifiable information before converting such data into a structured format.
Payam Movi, lead director for intelligent automation for governments and CMS technical lead for KPMG, said Intake PA can process a record within a minute compared to human operators who spend around 65 minutes on a single record.
CMS deployed the tool in April and has processed over 6K records with 95 percent accuracy upon its deployment.
