BEI Precision Systems and Space Company has delivered an encoder/motor assembly for an infrared imaging radiometer payload developed by Raytheon.

According to a company statement published Tuesday, the delivered assembly will serve as a component of Raytheon’s Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite J4 payload.

“The delivery enables Raytheon to continue the buildout of this key instrument in the Joint Polar Satellite System, the nation’s next-generation, polar-orbiting operational environmental satellite system,” said Ed Chung, VIIRS program manager at Raytheon.

He added that the payload will support weather prediction and a variety of industries including agriculture, transportation, energy and finance.
