Robert Patterson, senior executive director of global law enforcement at AT&T‘s public sector solutions business, has said the FirstNet communications service could be a “game changer” for the way public safety personnel conduct rescue and recovery missions.
He wrote in a GCN insight piece published Tuesday the nationwide broadband network offers push-to-talk features intended to help agencies collaborate to address public safety concerns.
Patterson added the system uses a physically separate network core designed to support end-to-end encryption tools and facilitates interoperability across land mobile radios as well as LTE devices.
“Its effectiveness improves each time a new agency or public safety professional signs up,” he noted.
The network hosts over 600K device connections from more than 7K organizations throughout the country.
