Dave McClure, principal director and CIO advisory lead at Accenture Federal Services, has said that agencies’ failure to leverage digital process automation for handling operational data resulted in “widely felt†performance gaps.
McClure said in an FCW piece published Thursday that AFS’ survey of defense and civilian agency officials revealed challenges in updating information technology systems and that DPA can “ensure that efforts are concentrated in areas where they have a rapid and bottom-line impactâ€.
“While there is no silver bullet for transforming and digitizing operations in federal agencies, we found that integrated approaches that bring people, processes and technologies together drive the most sustainable success,†McClure noted.
According to the report, 18 percent of agency processes have undergone integration and automation, while almost 60 percent of processes are fully or partially manual. Only six percent of the respondents said that they do not have current or future plans for digitizing or updating agency procedures.
McClure noted that new technologies such as cloud computing which utilize a pay-as-you-go framework can help address federal entities’ cost and modernization issues.
