SpaceX has completed the third static-fire test of the 27 Merlin 1D engines of its Falcon Heavy Flight 3 and is on schedule for the rocket’s second launch on June 24, Teslarati reported Wednesday.
Falcon Heavy, which will be launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, will be utilized for the U.S. Air Force’s Space Test Program 2 mission. It will also place 24 satellites in orbit.
The Department of Defense said it will be the military’s first launch aboard Falcon Heavy.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Falcon Heavy Flight 3 will be the company’s “most difficult launch ever.â€
The mission will use brand new center core, upper stage and payload fairing. In addition, this will be the second launch of the two side cores Block 5 boosters B1052 and B1053 on the rocket, which completed a mission on April 11.
