Smallsat Launch Service Providers Seek Gov't Market Presence via GSA Schedule - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Some companies are hoping to offer services via a General Services Administration contract vehicle to help government agencies deploy small satellites, SpaceNews reported Wednesday.

Greg Orndorff, vice president of government sales for Vector, told audience during a panel discussion held June 6 at the International Space Development Conference the company wants to market launch service offerings through the GSA Schedule and he believes that conducting frequent launches would help the government save on mission assurance costs.

Lars Hoffman, senior vice president of global launch services at Rocket Lab, said the company can close on contracts with a commercial customer within one to two weeks. He estimated the typical contracting process for a similar service would take months to complete.

Les Kovacs, vice president of business development at Firefly Aerospace, said strict government oversight of small space missions affects potential industry growth.
