Relativity has signed an initial nine-year lease with NASA as the company plans to build a factory and expand a testing facility for launch vehicles at the agency's Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
The agreement covers 220K square feet of space and includes an optional extension to use the leased facility for another decade, Relativity said Tuesday.
According to the company, it will establish a Terran 1 rocket production line equipped with 3D printing and robotic systems intended to also support first stage assembly, test and engine integration operations.
The premises include an industrial infrastructure, multiple bridge cranes and an 80-foot bay.
Los Angeles-based Relativity seeks to accelerate the process of manufacturing rockets with the use of a metal 3D printer, robotic technology and a machine learning method.
The company aims to conduct an orbital test by the end of next year and begin to provide launch services the following year.
