Raytheon is adding a new visual interface, which replaces pixelated images with 3D visuals, to its Patriot air and missile defense system to help personnel analyze data more rapidly in the field.
The new Warfighter-Machine Interface is designed to support the upcoming PDB 8.1 Patriot upgrade, and previously conducted tests showed that the WMI enabled troops to enhance reaction time and reduce errors during engagements, the company said Monday.
“Raytheon is constantly enhancing, upgrading and modernizing Patriot to ensure it can outpace evolving threats,†said Tom Laliberty, vice president of integrated air and missile defense at Raytheon’s integrated defense systems business.
He added the integrated WMI and PDB 8.1 system will provide customers with a new user interface with an expanded view of their battlespace.
The U.S. Army started adding the new interface to its Patriot systems in 2018. Raytheon expects the upgrade to achieve initial operational capability in 2022.
