Raytheon has finished drop testing of its StormBreaker tri-mode seeker weapon, which uses infrared, millimeter wave radar and semi-active laser guidance to attack targets.
StormBreaker now moves closer to achieving initial operational capability following the tests, with integration work now in early progress, the company said Monday.
The seeker features three modes designed for different needs: millimeter wave radar for target detection in adverse weather, infrared for boosted target discrimination and semi-active laser for tracking enemy laser designators. With these features, StormBreaker weapon is designed to chase moving targets over 45 miles away.
“All operating modes of StormBreaker have been rigorously tested in operationally relevant scenarios against real-world targets in environments that are similar to actual battlefield conditions,†said Kim Ernzen, vice president at Raytheon’s air warfare systems business.
