The Department of Defense has tapped Raytheon to help test an artificial intelligence tool designed to predict when U.S. Air Force’s CV-22 Osprey tiltrotors will need repair, FlightGlobal reported Wednesday.
Todd Probert, vice president of Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business, told FlightGlobal the project aims to collect data points via aircraft sensors and provide actionable insights maintainers can use.
“When you look at what is happening in the battlespace today, data is everywhere,” said Probert, adding “the military that can put that data to work for them is going to really dominate the battlefield.â€
Raytheon and the Air Force have been developing the AI tool since late last year and both parties will conduct tests in an effort to increase operational readiness by 2020.
A Boeing-Bell joint venture built the Osprey multimission aircraft.
