Mike Moran, vice president of space strategies at Peraton, has said the Department of Defense should prioritize industry partnerships to leverage commercial products that could help increase the resilience and diversity of military satellite communications.
In a guest piece posted Monday on MilsatMagazine. Moran wrote he believes that integrating commercial technology platforms and services with military systems would be “a game-changer†for the Pentagon.
He noted the DoD still faces challenges when managing and updating satcom platforms despite moving procurement tasks from the Defense Information Systems Agency to the U.S. Air Force Space Command.
Establishing agile relationships with technology vendors could help address the issues by allowing DoD utilize satellite constellations and industry capabilities for the development of assets in space, according to Moran.
“The resultant advantage for military customers is more rapid, reliable injection of impactful new satcom technologies and communications diversity into operational environments.”
