Chris Howard, vice president for federal sales at Nutanix, has said agencies should diversify information technology consumption models, avoid restrictive contracts and implement an outcome-based approach to reduce the impact of budget challenges.
He wrote in a Nextgov guest piece published Monday that acquiring third-party services can offer a flexibility for IT modernization and manage budget during a government shutdown.
He recommended that agencies employ creative problem-solving when developing request for proposals and avoid committing to contracts that result in customer “lock-in” or limit the transition of operations to another vendor.
“By leveraging diverse IT consumption models, avoiding restrictive specifications and equally restrictive contracting practices, agencies can reduce the impact of our federal budget ups and downs, and gain the control that a customer should have over what they purchase and when,†he wrote.
