Northrop Grumman has been awarded a four-year, $15.3M contract by the U.S. Navy to update electronic protective features of the MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system.
The service branch will obligate $1M at the time of award from its fiscal 2019 research, development, test and evaluation funds, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Work under the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract will take place in Linthicum, Md., through May 2023.
The project is part of the “Long Range Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for Navy and Marine Corps Science and Technology,†an ongoing initiative which calls for proposals for innovative technology that can be utilized by the Navy and the Marine Corps.
MQ-4C is designed to support military surveillance, communications and search-and-rescue operations.
The Office of Naval Research in Arlington, Va. is the contracting activity.
