Twenty-eight small businesses have been selected by Northrop Grumman to receive its World Class Team Award for their collaboration as suppliers and subcontractors to multiple programs.
Northrop said Friday it evaluated the awardees based on technical capability and performance, product and service quality, cost competitiveness and program support.
Patricia McMahon, vice president of corporate supply chain at Northrop, said the recipients helped the company meet its small business objectives and top performance goals while supporting other mentor-protege programs such as AbilityOne and the Historically Black Colleges/Universities initiative.
The defense company allocated more than $8B for its supplier base during 2018 and noted that 37 percent of the firm's procurement spending last year went to women- or minority-owned and small businesses.
Northrop has surpassed the 23 percent statutory goal for subcontracting opportunities over the past 13 years.
