Deloitte will assist NASA in planning the introduction of new air vehicles, such as passenger drones and flying taxis, into the U.S. air transportation system.

The company said Monday it received a contract to support the one-year project to create a concept of operations for urban air mobility, which will be shared by NASA with the aviation sector.

“With much change happening in aviation, NASA is being smart by asking what all of this change means to mobility and what will be needed to safely accommodate new air vehicles in our air transport system,” said Chris Metts, a specialist executive at Deloitte.

He added the company looks to use its expertise and experience in government mobility studies and industry aerospace and systems engineering to support the contract.

Matt Metcalfe, a managing director at Deloitte, said the company gathered officials from its global aviation business and partners from academia and the public and private sectors to form an advisory team to help in the development of the concept of operations for NASA.
