Microsoft has selected the city of Louisville, Ky., to be a regional hub for the company's innovation programs in the data science, internet of things and artificial intelligence areas.
The company intends to open a facility in the downtown area, offer grants and host multiple events as part of the AI Innovation Digital Alliance, the government of Louisville said Friday.
Mayor Greg Fischer said the partnership aims to prepare the city's workforce for technological revolution and drive economic opportunity.
Microsoft also plans to establish a fellowship program that will collaborate with startups, nonprofits, schools and workforce development organizations. Louisville Metro and the company will support digital inclusion efforts and partner with the Brookings Institution to help communities address the potential impacts of adopting IoT, data science and AI platforms.
