Lockheed Martin and Universal Synaptics have partnered to help the Department of Defense detect and address intermittent faults in avionics systems, Avionics International reported Monday.
Lockheed will provide equipment and analysis as system integrator for Universal Synaptics’ intermittent fault detection technology.
The companies will offer portable and rack-mounted versions of the fault detection and isolation system under the partnership to accommodate different needs.
In contrast to the current industry practice of testing circuits one by one, the portable Voyager detection device can test up to 512 different points of an avionics system at once.
Meanwhile, the rack-mounted Intermittent Fault Detection & Isolation System is capable of testing 1,280 points at a single time.
Jason Brooks, deputy program director of support equipment solutions at Lockheed Martin, said the inability to identify such faults contributes to $2B of the DoD’s non-value costs.
Universal Synaptics is a small business working to address the technological need for intermittent fault detection.
