Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force trialed an air-launched rapid response weapon during a recent flight test from Edwards Air Force Base in California.
AGM-183AÂ ARRW launched from a B-52 Stratofortress aircraft as part of a rapid prototyping effort, following the weapon's completion of preliminary design review in March.
USAF collaborates with Lockheed to mature the system as part of a rapid prototyping initiative. The military service expects the weapon to reach initial operational capability status by fiscal 2022.
According to the company, a hypersonic technology has speed, maneuverability and altitude charcteristics allowing the platform to support missions in a contested environment.
