Executives at L3 Technologies said a potential $500M contract the company won from the Air Force to update the avionics systems of 176 C-130H airlifters is one of the signs of the company’s cultural shift through its adoption of “innovation sprints,†Defense One reported Sunday.
L3 should address a problem within a week under the innovation sprint, which the company started implementing in 2017.
“When you do something like this in a week, there is every chance you are going to fail during that week and you might learn something,†Jeff Miller, head of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems segment at L3, said of the sprint.
“I think the biggest impact that we’ve seen out of this is when our engineers or other people leave these sprints, they leave thinking about their daily job and how they could do it differently and start to believe that failing fast is okay in our culture. It’s a huge cultural impact on what we’ve done with the organization,†Miller added.
L3 CEO and 2019 Wash100 winner Christopher Kubasik recently announced that the company and Harris are still awaiting approval from the Department of Justice, the European Union and Turkey for their planned merger and expect to close the transaction in mid-calendar year 2019.
