Don Hamadyk, director of research and development at Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ Newport News Shipbuilding division, has been appointed chairman of the executive control board for the National Shipbuilding Research Program.

NSRP represents private shipbuilders that offer a process improvement framework for industry, the company said Thursday.

Hamadyk is a 38-year Newport News veteran who previously served as the division’s director of innovation and engineering solutions.

He supported collaborative efforts between the U.S. Navy and industry to formulate technical standards for the production of ship metal components through the additive manufacturing approach.
