The Department of Homeland Security has awarded 24 contracts to 22 small businesses to conduct research-and-development efforts that seek to address mission requirements across the DHS enterprise.
DHS said Friday the latest SBIR awards include the 1,000th contract issued since the Small Business Innovation Research Program's inception in 2004.
“This is a huge milestone for the DHS SBIR program as it signifies our history of investment in America’s innovative small businesses from which numerous technologies and concepts have been developed to support the homeland security mission,†said William Bryan, acting undersecretary for science and technology.
The DHSÂ Science and Technology Directorate selected 19 proposals and its Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office picked the remaning five proposals.
Each contractor will receive up to $150K to carry out six-month research projects and demonstrate the feasibility of different technology concepts.
Topic areas include access management, first responder technology, sensors, machine learning, cybersecurity, network modeling, blockchain and unmanned aerial systems.Â
