Dan Jablonsky, president and CEO of Maxar Technologies, has said the company aims to build a platform to help NASA astronauts reach and explore the moon’s surface, The Denver Channel reported Wednesday.
Westminster, Colo.-based Maxar will produce and demonstrate the first element of the space agency’s lunar Gateway station under a potential $375M contract awarded in May.
Jablonsky told the publication that the element is designed to support power, communications and propulsion functions for crewed missions.
The company proposed a solar array system that would aid spacecraft maneuvers.
NASA aims to launch the Gateway sometime in 2022 and return to the moon by 2024.
