Cubic’s transportation systems business has implemented a new fare payment platform, which will enable users to record their ride history, for New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The new platform is part of NY MTA’s One Metro New York fare payment system with a public pilot covering 16 stations across the Lexington Avenue line, Cubic said Friday.
The OMNY system will allow users to check their balance and make payments through the use of bank cards and digital wallets. It will also feature an Apple-made function that will allow users to tap iPhones or Apple Watches to access rides.
Cubic designed, integrated and delivered the newly-implemented payment platform that supports the first phase of OMNY’s public pilot.
NY MTA plans to implement OMNY across Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad lines in future phases. The new payment system is compatible with its predecessor, MetroCard, and will continue to be so until 2023.
