Brian Kenner to Join Amazon as Regional Economic Development Senior Manager

Brian Kenner, deputy mayor for planning and economic development in Washington, D.C., will join Amazon in early July to serve as a senior manager with oversight of regional economic development efforts in the Greater Washington area, the Washington Business Journal reported Thursday.

“Our new headquarters presents an opportunity for us to build a foundation for regional collaboration and engagement. We will rely on Brian Kenner’s expertise in the region and in economic development to help us do that,” Brian Huseman, vice president for public policy at Amazon, said in a statement.

Kenner will be based in the company’s office in D.C. and work with policymakers on housing, workforce and transportation, among other areas.

He was appointed by Mayor Muriel Bowser to the DMPED role in January 2015. He previously served as city manager of Takoma Park in Maryland, a senior fund manager at Fannie Mae, a vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle and as a manager of the government real estate consulting practice at EY.
