Booz Allen's Josh Elliot: National AI Strategy Key for US Technological Edge - top government contractors - best government contracting eventJosh Elliot, principal and director of artificial intelligence at Booz Allen Hamilton, has said the federal government should develop a national AI strategy and risk mitigation plans in efforts to implement the emerging technology.

He wrote in a Nextgov guest piece published Friday establishing an AI policy can help the U.S. to sustain global leadership and reduce industry barriers in AI deployment.

“Currently, existing regulations or proposed export controls intended to protect American intellectual property often have unintended consequences, such as stifling innovation,” Elliot said.

He urged the government to collaborate with the academe and private sector to develop an AI implementation strategy that considers factors such as potential use cases, existing infrastructure and personnel capabilities, machine learning methodology and verification procedures.

The White House’s proposed fiscal 2020 budget covers operational costs for the Joint AI Center as well as AI research efforts at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Energy Department.
