Amazon Web Services intends to launch a degree program for its collaborative effort with Northern Virginia Community College to promote digital and cloud-related skills training, the Washington Business Journal reported Wednesday.
Teresa Carlson, vice president for worldwide public sector business at AWS and a 2019 Wash100 winner, told attendees at a FedScoop event that the new program will build on NOVA's associate degree curriculum that covers 63 credits of cloud services and other required AWS “skills and competency-based credentialsâ€.
The program will also offer students access the AWS Educate technology training and employment resources program that supports around 1.5K academic entities.
Carlson noted the educational effort ensures that insitutions are teaching relevant skills that would cut time alloted for retraining.
She plans to further discuss the new degree program during the 2019 AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington, D.C.
