The Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University have partnered with Amazon Web Services to establish a bachelor of applied science degree that will cover cloud computing as well as DevOps, cybersecurity and software development.

Both educational institutions collaborated with curriculum designers for the AWS Educate program to create the BAS degree which will simplify students’ transition from a two-year NOVA degree to a four-year bachelor’s degree at Mason, AWS said Tuesday.

Created as part of the AWS Educate program in 2018, the new educational pathway builds on NOVA’s associate of applied science degree with specialization in cloud.

Teresa Carlson, vice president for worldwide public sector business at AWS and a 2019 Wash100 winner, first announced plans for the degree program at a Fedscoop event last week.

Students may apply for the new BAS degree by fall 2020.
