The Army Forces Strategic Command has cleared Viasat‘s software-based modem technology for U.S. military use on a satellite network built to support broadband communications across land, air and sea domains.
CBM-400 is certified to operate with the Wideband Global Satcom system and designed to help users transmit video, data and audio files at a speed of up to 400 megabits per second, Viasat said Wednesday.
The modem supports ArcLight, Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modem and LinkWay, three waveforms being used by the Department of Defense.
Viasat designed its platform to facilitate satellite broadband communications regardless of whether the user is mobile or stationary and to operate with the firm’s proposed Hybrid Adaptive Network.
HAN is an architecture concept that would help government and commercial users to secure operations through various satcom networks.
