Aerojet Rocketdyne has opened a new facility in Huntsville, Ala. designed to manufacture rocket propulsion technologies, as part of the company’s intention to expand in the city.
The firm said Friday it held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 136K-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility with CEO Eileen Drake and Alabama officials such as Governor Kay Ivey and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.
It will produce propulsion hardware for multiple defense and space programs including the Standard Missile-3 and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system.
The AMF’s opening follows Aerojet Rocketdyne’s ribbon cutting of a new 122K-square-foot Defense Headquarters building one day earlier, where the firm will perform work for various government-funded technologies such as hypersonics and engine controllers for NASA’s Space Launch System.
Aerojet Rocketdyne chose Huntsville as the company’s defense headquarters in 2017, employing 70 local personnel at the time. The firm now has over 400 employees in the city and seeks further growth as AMF activities reach full capacity.
