Verogen's Forensic Genomics System Gets FBI Approval - top government contractors - best government contracting event

FBI has approved the use of Verogen's forensic technology for DNA profiling at federal, state and municipal laboratories.

The agency intends to upload resulting DNA profiles into the National DNA Index System, a platform designed to facilitate DNA comparison, Verogen said Thursday. The company's MiSeq FGx forensic genomics system is the first platform authorized for use with NDIS.

The Verogen-made genomics system works to help scientists simultaneously analyze a maximum of 231 DNA markers.

Jenifer Smith, director of the Washington, D.C., Department of Forensic Sciences, said the genomics system would allow them to support more investigations through the use of next generation sequencing technology.

The approval would also allot more funds from the National Institute of Justice for the genomics system's implementation.
