Verizon and Naval Base Coronado have installed wireless small cell networks at Naval Air Station North Island, Small Clemente Island and Naval Amphibious Base.
The company said Thursday its partnership with the naval base aims to reinforce public safety and tactical operations and improve wireless connectivity for tenant commands and residents.
“With decades of experience working with military and federal agencies, Verizon is uniquely positioned to partner with the Navy to build a network infrastructure that meets its critical needs,†said Michael Maiorana, senior vice president of public sector at Verizon and a 2019 Wash100 winner.
“This investment further solidifies Verizon’s commitment to the mission needs of the Navy,†Maiorana added.
Naval Base Coronado is one of the naval installations to deploy Verizon’s 4G LTE small cell wireless platform, which will help usher in the adoption of 5G technologies to support Smart Shore programs.
