Sierra Nevada Corp. will install its Degraded Visual Environment Systems on the U.S. Air Force’s fleet of HH-60G helicopters under a five-year, $74.9M contract.

The Air Force will integrate the DVES into 85 HH-60Gs in an effort to increase situational awareness of pilots and aircrew operating in areas with low visibility, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

Work will take place in Sparks, Nev., and the service will obligate an initial $19.15M in fiscal 2019 procurement funds at the time of award.

The Air Force received three bids for the contract, which will run through May 21, 2024.

DVES uses penetrating sensors to provide instantaneous visual information for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, and assists operators in takeoff, landing, and terrain and obstacle detection.
