Rigaku’s handheld chemical analyzer has been approved for U.S. soldiers’ dismounted reconnaissance kits and will soon be utilized worldwide, National Defense said Friday.

Capable of scanning dangerous liquids and powders in sealed containers, Rigaku Progeny ResQ can identify up to 13K chemical warfare agents, toxic chemicals and other compounds.

“It can keep the user safe from harm from exposure to potential hazards because they’re not opening the container and taking the sample out to analyze it,” said Nancy Otto, worldwide business development manager at Rigaku.

After two and a half years of exhaustive trials, the analyzer has been authorized for military use. The U.S. Army will issue purchase orders beginning January, and intends to include the chemical scanning device in hundreds of service kits.

Established in 1951, Rigaku is a provider of X-ray systems, analytical platforms and industrial instrumentation services to international clients.
