Lockheed Martin and Raytheon booked contracts worth more than $3B combined in recent months to develop new hypersonics technology for the Department of Defense, Aviation International News reported Friday.
Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed CEO and 2019 Wash100 winner, said at an April earnings call that the company secured contracts totaling more than $2.5B to support hypersonic weapons programs.
The Bethesda, Md.-based company recently received an $800M task order to develop, build and integrate systems to support the U.S. Navy's hypersonic weapons testing operations.
Artie Mabbett, director of advanced high-speed weapons at Raytheon, noted that the company secured “a mix of both classified and open source contracts†on hypersonics efforts including a $63.3M contract to develop boost-glide platforms for the Defense Advance Research Projects Agency.
