John Osborne, chief OpenShift architect for public sector at Red Hat, wrote in a Nextgov article published Friday that there are three approaches government agencies can implement to speed up and facilitate their migration to hybrid cloud and one is through the development of a “single repository of truth.â€
“This repository will store not only application code and dependencies, but anything that is needed to build an environment from version control,†Osborne noted.
“Many times a single repository of truth will include things such as application code, database schemas, environment creation tools, scripts, automated tests, and even documentation and release notes.â€
He called on agencies to adopt Kubernetes and other industry-standard application programming interfaces to streamline their transition to hybrid cloud environments and default to open with data through the use of APIs and open-source technologies.
“While these strategies are essential building blocks for hybrid and multicloud environments, ideally they are best practices that should be adopted regardless of your agency’s infrastructure,†Osborne added.
