Raytheon Develops Open Architecture-Based Unmanned Ground Control System; Bob Busey Quoted

Raytheon has built a common ground control system designed to help the U.S. Navy operate multiple unmanned platforms using a single cyber-hardened workstation.

The company said Tuesday its CGCS is built to enable the Navy to integrate new features and reuse software services through the use of an open architecture that leverages the Unmanned Aircraft System Control Segment standard.

"The beauty of … using the UCS standard is that it can integrate third-party packages for things like mission management, mission planning, maps and graphic user interfaces," said Bob Busey, director of unmanned vehicle control systems at Raytheon.

"If they want a GUI that looks like a manned system or a yellow button here instead of a red button there, then it can be very quickly, easily and affordably integrated. That way, they're not reinventing the wheel every time they need a new map,” he added.

The CGCS platform can also use the Universal Command and Control, Open Mission Systems and other open system standards and is designed to help the service train sailors to control and operate multiple vehicles.
