VMware is close to earning an authority to operate for its cloud offering under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program and CEO Pat Gelsinger said he considers the FedRAMP certification a “critical milestone†and a significant opportunity for the company, CRN reported Thursday.
When asked by an analyst about the Department of Defense’s $10B Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract at the company’s earnings call Thursday, Gelsinger talked about the company’s efforts to secure more work with government and military clients but shied away from mentioning the JEDI program.
“While we can’t forecast winners and losers and what protests may occur, we are getting our offering ready to be a cloud provider to government,†he said.
The report said VMware is likely to benefit from the JEDI program as a result of its partnership with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft – the two companies vying for the contract.
