Parrot, a European drone manufacturer, is among the six firms that will develop small unmanned aircraft system prototypes  with $11M in total funds from the Department of Defense.

The company said Tuesday it was selected to participate in the Short Range Reconnaissance program, a partnership between the U.S. Army and the Defense Innovation Unit.

The SRR effort seeks a surveillance drone designed to operate for 30 minutes at a range of 1.86 miles. The system  should weigh three pounds at most and fit inside a rucksack.
