Northrop Intros Maritime Inertial Navigation Tech - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Northrop Grumman has unveiled a maritime inertial navigation system that works to integrate with guidance technology designed for unmanned surface and underwater vehicles as well as maritime patrol and surface vessels.

Sea Fiber Optic Inertial Navigation with Data Distribution has a compact design and uses low-latency algorithms for multiple users to manage position and timing data, the company said Monday.

Based on a modular architecture, SeaFIND employs a cable linking an inertial measurement unit and an electronic module.

The offering succeeds Northrop's MK-39 Mod 3 and Mod 4 inertial navigation systems and will be available to domestic and international naval clients.

“This new approach features [enhanced fiber optic gyro] technology, which allows us to maintain performance equivalent to our ring laser gyro based systems, but in a much smaller footprint and at a reduced cost,” said Todd Leavitt, vice president of maritime systems at Northrop.
