The National Institute of Standards and Technology has issued a request for quotation on a project to design and build a system that would collect data representing objects and events of interest to the public safety user community.

NIST said Monday in a FedBizOpps notice it seeks a contractor that can help the agency develop a video event data collection scenario, such as a simulated armed robbery, and assemble the video data into an organized format for post-production tasks.

“The venue shall have diverse background environments to contrast the detection object of interest—e.g. pistol—and shall allow for variations to occur in the scene environment as well as in camera type and function,” the RFQ document states. “The venue shall also have provision for movement and positioning of actors to be varied to provide diversity in data.”

The selected contractor will provide subject matter expertise, videographers and support staff to create the videos.

NIST plans to award a firm-fixed-price contract with a six-month base period and expects the project to drive research and development work on machine learning or computer vision algorithms.

Interested parties can submit offers to the agency through May 28.
