NASA Issues Statement on Maxar’s Selection for Lunar ‘Gateway’ Propulsion Dev’t Contract

A source selection statement issued by NASA Thursday shows that price and contract terms were the factors that helped Maxar Technologies win a  $375M contract to build and demonstrate a power and propulsion element for the agency’s proposed lunar Gateway space station, SpaceNews reported Friday.

“We look at this as not just the PPE award, but the first PPE award, because we are looking at a robust cislunar economic market for both the government and the private sector,” said Mike Gold, a vice president at Maxar.

The document cited technical, management, partnering and commercial approaches as other factors used by NASA to evaluate offerors for the PPE contract.

Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Sierra Nevada also submitted bids for the PPE development program, according to the report.
