Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Marine Corps have completed an initial operational test and evaluation of an active electronically scanned array radar designed to provide a 360-degree area coverage for warfighters to detect and counter threats.
AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar passed the IOT&E phase that sought to assess the operational performance and suitability of the technology for fleet introduction, Northrop said Monday.Â
Completion of the assessment indicates that Marines can begin to deploy Block 1 and 2 configurations of the G/ATOR system.
“Through our close partnership with the Marine Corps, we have been able to successfully achieve the IOT&E milestone and begin fielding this radar system with unrivaled mission capability to operational units,†said Christine Harbison, vice president of land and avionics C4ISR at Northrop.
The company has delivered eight production G/ATORs to the service branch.
