Lockheed Martin has started implementing Agile development process since August 2018 and is now set to deploy in the summer the software upgrade for the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 fighter aircraft, FCW reported Tuesday.
According to the report, feedback from a group of digital specialists from the Defense Digital Service and Defense Innovation Unit during a software update planning event prompted Lockheed to seek the help of Red Hat and implement a cultural change to adopt Agile processes.
Red Hat specialists helped Lockheed to carry out continuous innovation and testing initiatives in support of the latter’s Agile development effort.
"During this period, Red Hat was embedded with us, involved in every scrum and every activity," said Michael Cawood, who leads product development efforts for Lockheed’s F-22 and F-16 programs. "It wasn't just a bunch of PowerPoints. You have to learn a new process."
