Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled Blue Origin’s lunar lander at a press conference held Thursday in Washington, D.C., Bloomberg reported Friday.
The Blue Moon lander has an internal spherical power tank atop four landing pads and is powered by liquid hydrogen and hydrogen fuel cells.
“It’s time to go back to the moon, this time to stay,â€Â Bezos, Blue Origin’s founder, said at the event.
He also introduced a liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen engine – BE-7 – designed to power the spacecraft’s six-minute descent.
Bezos said Blue Moon could field a small rover once it lands and that he expects lunar missions using the vehicle to begin by 2024.
Blue Origin has started working on the vehicle since 2017 and entered into an agreement with NASA in October to build medium to large lunar landers, according to the report.
