Huntington Ingalls Industries has selected AMSC to deliver a degaussing system for a San Antonio-class ship.
HII plans to install the degaussing system into a high temperature conductor-based security system intended for the Flight II-class LPD 30 amphibious transport dock vessel, AMSC said Monday.
The security platform is built to lower energy usage and the degaussing system's weight to 90 percent and mitigate the vessel's magnetic signature to intervene undersea mines.
San Antonio-class ships are designed to hold over 800 warfighters and perform special operations, amphibious assault and expeditionary warfare missions. Additionally, the vessels can transport and debark conventional landing crafts and air cushions.
AMSC is a Massachusetts-based company that offers engineering, design services, wind turbine electronic controls and systems
