Matthew Garner, a more than 11-year civil service veteran of the Naval Sea Systems Command, has been named assistant vice president of ship design at Arlington, Va.-based maritime engineering company Gibbs & Cox.
The former Senior Executive Service member most recently served as NAVSEA’s director for submarine/submersible design and systems engineering, Gibbs & Cox said Monday.
His previous roles at NAVSEA include director of ship integrity and performance engineering and head of the surface combatants and mine warfare ships division.
Garner is a recipient of two civilian service awards from the U.S. Navy.
He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of New Orleans.
