A FluorBalfour Beatty Infrastructure joint venture has secured a potential five-year, $1.7B contract from the Texas Department of Transportation to expand the Dallas Interstate 635 freeway as part of effort to increase mobility and reduce traffic congestion.

The Fluor-led team intends to employ management personnel and 500 craft workers to support the widening and reconstruction of the LBJ Freeway, an 11-mile stretch of the I-635, as well as the construction of general purpose lanes and frontage roads, the company said Thursday.

Fluor expects to post the contract value in its third-quarter earnings report. The deal includes an option for post-construction maintenance services.

Terence Easton, president of Fluor’s infrastructure and power business, said the company has supported TxDOT projects over the past 18 years and is committed to building its presence in the state’s infrastructure market.

I-635 spans the northern and eastern parts of Dallas and accommodates more than 200K vehicles on a daily basis.
