DoD Seeks Tools to Reduce Civilian Casualties During Airstrikes

The Pentagon wants to develop new capabilities that will enable the U.S. Military to help foreign allies reduce or avoid civilian casualties during airstrikes.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency issued a request for information on FedBizOpps seeking industry feedback on methodologies to enhance the protection of civilians, technologies that can guide weapons operators in identifying targets and predicting collateral damage based on weapon employment scenarios, and communication tools for informing the public. 

DSCA said intelligence analysts would use the tools to assess point of impact, probability of damage, angle of attack and potential civilian injuries. 

Technologies built for the program should be “unclassified” as the agency intends to share the capabilities with allied nations. 

DSCA also seeks information on how to collect, track and analyze civilian casualty data and ways to apply lessons to future operations.

The agency will accept questions on the RFI through June 6, while vendors can submit capabilities statements until June 14.
